How insect repellent plants work

Like all other organisms on the surface of the earth,Plants have their own mechanisms of surviving and escaping damages from pests and any form of harm from other organisms in the enviroment by constantly defending themselves

Many of them produce natural chemical compounds that are capable preventing insects from feeding on them ,Masking scents that attract pests and interfering with the nervous system of the insects. Some of the most common compounds include:

  • Citronellal & Citronellol – Found in lemongrass; they confuse the mosquito scent receptors
  • Eugenol – Found in basil and cloves;they work by disrupting the insect nervous systems
  • Linalool – Found in lavender;they  repel flies and mosquitoes
  • Menthol – Found in mint; they work by irritating the insects and masks human scent
  • Pyrethrins – Found in chrysanthemums; they affect insect nerve function

These compounds are a  replica of the industrial  prepared insect repellants that are pure natural .
